Description This article describes the useful mobile application, called 'IP Tools: WiFi Analyzer' when troubleshooting network issues relating to the FortiGate Firewall.
Scope FortiGate, Wireless, Mobile.
Solution

In some cases, a wireless client like a laptop can access the internal resource (which is behind the FortiGate Firewall) but a mobile phone cannot access it. In this case, it needs to install the mobile app called 'IP Tools' to diagnose the network issue (this application is free, and available on both CH Play and App Store).

It can show the network settings, such as IP address, DNS, and Wireless channel.

Many tools in the application can be used to diagnose the connection to FortiGate, such as DNS lookup, Ping, and Traceroute:

This is an example of using local DNS (192.168.0.1) to query DNS (A record) for the domain google.com.

In several cases, the mobile phone can ping to an IP address but cannot ping to FQDN. This example can be used to check the DNS issue on mobile phones: if the DNS works well, the ping to FQDN should reply okay.
