Technical Tip: Transferring Azure license type from subscription to permanent license

To transfer the license, follow the steps below:

1. Snapshot and backup everything.
2. Remove the device from FortiManager (if present).
3. Download the existing license for the older FortiGate from the asset list in Support.
4. Shutdown the older FortiGate.
5. Go to 'FortiGuard - Update License file' On the new FortiGate and upload the license file.

Notes:

• The same license cannot be used by any other VM; it will cause a license duplication issue. An internet connection is also required to verify license status.
• Once the license is applied, the instance will reboot, it will use the new serial number, and try to validate its license with the FortiGuard server.
