Description This article describes an expected change for 1G Ethernet interface diagnostics. In earlier firmware versions, a speed value was displayed even when the interface link was down. Starting in FortiOS v7.4.10, the default speed information for an interface is displayed as 'N/A' when the link is down.
Scope FortiOS v7.4.10 and later, v7.6.7 and later, v8.0.0 Beta 2 and later.
Solution For example, in FortiOS v7.4.9:

diagnose hardware deviceinfo nic lan2
Description :FortiASIC NP6XLITE Adapter
Driver Name :FortiASIC NP6XLITE Driver
Board :40F
...
========== Link Status ==========
Admin :up
netdev status :down
autonego_setting :1
link_setting :1
speed_setting :1000
duplex_setting :0
Speed :10
Duplex :N/A
link_status :Down

After upgrade to FortiOS v7.4.11:

diagnose hardware deviceinfo nic lan2
Description :FortiASIC NP6XLITE Adapter
Driver Name :FortiASIC NP6XLITE Driver
Board :40F
...
========== Link Status ==========
Admin :up
netdev status :down
autonego_setting :1
link_setting :1
speed_setting :1000
duplex_setting :0
Speed :N/A
Duplex :N/A
link_status :Down

With the new behavior, when the link is down, the interface speed is displayed as 'N/A', since the default unused speed value is no longer set to 10 Mbps.
