Description

This article describes how to monitor secondary unit power supply in HA configuration

Scope FortiGate v5.x, v6.x, v7.x.
Solution

It is possible to monitor the secondary power supply in a HA (high availability) configuration.

An OID is looked for to check the power supply via SNMP on both cluster devices.

  1. Make sure to have the ha-management interface configured. It is necessary to enable ha-direct in the SNMP setting as explained here:
    https://community.fortinet.com/t5/FortiGate/Technical-Tip-FortiGate-SNMP-polling-via-the-dedicated-HA/ta-p/196034?externalID=FD34731

    2. It is possible to use traps to monitor the power supply:

config system snmp community
    edit xxx

        Set name yyy
        set events (...) power-supply-failure (...)
    end

If there should be an issue with the power supply now in any of the cluster units, a notification will appear if traps are enabled.

Above commands have been tested with 6.4.12, 7.0.12, 7.2.5, and 7.4.0 versions.
