Technical Tip: Monitor bandwidth usage per source
Description
This article describes how to check bandwidth usage by using a bandwidth usage monitor per source.
Scope
FortiGate.
Solution
- Monitor Bandwidth usage is passing thru FortiGate via FortiView.
- Go to Dashboard, select the '+' button, set a name, select 'OK' and then add a widget (on this example it is Fortiview Sources).
- Choose which bandwidth usage to monitor but in this example, it is for bandwidth usage per source so 'FortiView Sources' have been chosen.
- Configure a TIME PERIOD (now, 1hour, 24hours, 7 days), VISUALIZATION (Table view or Bubble chart), and SORT BY (bytes, sessions, bandwidth, packets).
- Final Output. It is possible now to view bandwidth usage per sources.
Note: The bandwidth section is only visible if the Time Period is set to NOW.
If the time period is changed to 1 hour or 24 hours, the bandwidth section goes away.
Note: To ensure accurate data is displayed in this Dashboard Widget, ‘Log Allowed Traffic’ (Security Events or All Sessions) should be enabled in the firewall policies.
