Technical Tip: How to setup Fortinet SSL VPN Microsoft app on Windows machine

Description This article describes how to configure the FortiClient Windows app on a Windows machine.
Scope FortiGate, FortiClient.
Solution
  1. Install the FortiClient SSL VPN application from the Windows Store.

  1. Once the application is installed on the machine, navigate to Settings -> Network -> VPN. On this page, there will be an option to add a VPN connection.

  1. Under VPN connection, select Add a VPN connection:
  • On the VPN provider, select FortiClient.
  • The connection name could be used as any name to identify the connection.
  • The server name or address should be the VPN gateway IP with the port number 'https://<Fortigate IP address or fully qualified domain name (FQDN):<Custom SSL VPN port>' and then select SAVE.

  1. Once the connection is saved, select Connect, which will further prompt for username and password. Enter the user credentials for the VPN user.

Note: 

  1. FortiClient for ARM architecture (FortiClientVPNSetup_7.4.3.8758_ARM64.exe) has been published on the Fortinet Support Portal.
  2. Native VPN for SSL-VPN  on Windows 11 :
  • VPN is not connecting or fluctuating connection, and any internal Server is not reachable.
  • On a Windows PC, go to Settings -> Network& Internet -> VPN.
  • VPN Type Select Always ->Automatic.
  • The connection issue will be resolved.
