Technical Tip: How to register license or solve expired license error

Description


This article describes how to register a license or solve expired license errors after changing FortiGate or the ISP Internet Connection.


Scope


FortiGate.


Solution


To test the connection to FortiGuard.

 
Check FortiGate DNS servers, go to Network -> DNS -> Configure the DNS
  • Primary DNS server: 96.45.45.45
  • Secondary DNS server: 96.45.46.46.
 
Run diagnose and sniffer commands as follows:
 

diagnose debug disable

diagnose debug reset

diagnose debug application update -1 
diagnose debug enable 
execute update-now
 

Wait 2-3 minutes to finish the update process. To stop the debugging:

 

diagnose debug disable

diagnose debug reset

 

To start the sniffer:

 

   diagnose sniffer packet any "port 8888" 4 0 a

 

To see if FortiGuard servers are reachable:
     

     diagnose debug rating

 

Check License Registration.
