Technical Tip: How to pass screen 'maintenance mode' on the GUI getting stuck on 0%

When the FortiGate experiences an outburst of energy or a hard reboot, a screen on the GUI will advise executing a File System Check to check the file system consistency and disk integrity.

Pressing the bottom 'Reboot and check file system' button will reboot the FortiGate and start an internal process to check the File System integrity and disk. After this, the next screen will appear, telling that the FortiGate is in Maintenance Mode, and no action will be permitted until the File system check ends.

If the FortiGate gets frozen on this screen after a long time (1 hour +) is necessary to do this process manually. In order to do so, reboot the FortiGate and now press the option 'Remind me later'.

After logging in successfully on the GUI,  go to the CLI and follow the next steps:

1. Identify the ID of the storage resource executing the command 'execute disk list':

In this example, the 'ref' field refers to the reference and/or ID of the storage.

2. After having the ID, execute the manual File System Check, executing the command 'execute disk scan 1' (the number '1' is the ID of the storage). This action will require the system to reboot; type 'y' to continue.

After this, the FortiGate will reboot as normal, and the message will not appear again recommending doing the File System Check. This will also avoid the screen in maintenance mode from getting stuck on 0%.
