Technical Tip: How to create Aggregate Links - 802.3ad
Description
This article describes there are two or more physical interfaces which can be combined logically to enhance performance. This may also be used where needed in a specific network requirement.
Scope
FortiOS Link Aggregation.
Solution
- under System -> Network, select 'Create New' From this menu configure the new aggregate link. Including allow access, (For example: HTTP), as well as IP address and mode.

- Once 802.3ad has been selected as the interface type, members can be assigned. In adding interfaces as members only interfaces that have not been previously used somewhere, and have no IP assigned yet, can be used.

After all members have been selected one IP will be assigned, through static IP, DHCP or PPPoE, to the Aggregate link.
- When the configuration of this link has been completed it may be treated as another physical or VLAN interface. The steps that follow to use in a policy include assigning addresses, from Firewall -> Address, followed by policy creation.
