Technical tip: How to change the geographical location of a FortiGate

Remarks:

• It is possible to see FortiGate showing its location somewhere in the Gulf of Guinea (0°S, 0°E) on the VPN Location map. The reason behind this is that the Latitude and longitude are not set by default on the FortiGate. 
• It is possible to drag and drop the FortiGate at the correct location on the VPN Location Map, and the location will be saved. 

To set specific latitude and longitude in the CLI, run the following commands:

config system global
    set gui-device-latitude 45.424721
    set gui-device-longitude -75.695000
end

After running the commands, the location is updated according to the configured latitude and longitude:

Note: Running the CLI below allows FortiGate to display its location. This information comes from FortiGuard and corresponds to the FortiGate WAN IP address.

CLI Command:

diagnose sys waninfo ipify
