Technical Tip: FortiOS log viewer from the Web-based manager (GUI)

Description

 

This article describes how, following the release of FortiOS 4.0MR2, there is an enhanced log view available to Administrators wishing to browse and look more closely at log entries on the FortiGate device.

Scope

 

FortiOS 4.0 MR2 and above.

Solution

 

To access the new log view, double-click on an individual log entry from the Log & Report menu of the GUI (web-based manager). After, a browse-able 'Log Details' menu will appear on the right-hand side of the screen in a vertical format as shown below:

This option is available in both the Formatted and Raw views.
From the 'Log Details' view, all logs are browse-able by selecting the cursor arrows in the top right of the 'Log Details' window.

Additional note:

 

As this article was created for an older version of the FortiOS, the Log View on the newer versions has been changed.

As an example, on the latest version of the latest branch at the moment, FortiOS v7.6.3, the view will be as follows:
