Technical Tip: FortiGate-200G/201G support for FortiAI Assistant

Description

This article describes FortiAI assistant support on FortiGate-200G/201G in FortiOS v8.0 firmware versions.

Scope

FortiGate-200G/201G.

FortiOS v8.0.0 and higher.

Solution

FortiOS v8.0.0 introduces FortiAI assistant integration in the FortiOS GUI for supported FortiGate devices; see FortiAI assistant and CLI Code Lab.

Although FortiGate-200G/201G devices are intended to support FortiAI, these devices have a reported issue in FortiOS v8.0.0 causing an issue communicating with Fortinet's FortiAI provider.

When making a query using FortiAI in FortiOS v8.0.0, FortiGate-200G/201G shows the following error:

An error occurred while generating the response.

When the FortiAI settings pane is opened, the following error shows:

ENOENT: no such file or directory, open '/etc/cert/factory/root_Fortinet_Factory.key'

In FortiOS v8.0.1 (currently planned for release in August 2026), the FortiAI feature will be temporarily hidden in the GUI for affected devices.

Resolution:

A fix for this issue is scheduled for FortiOS v8.0.2. Upgrade to FortiOS v8.0.2 or higher when available.

Note for earlier FortiGate models:

Some models such as FortiGate 200E that have reached the End-of-Order date do not support the FortiAI feature.
