Technical Tip: Extraction of .msi file from .exe file FortiClient VPN only setup

To extract the .msi file from the FortiClient VPN only, follow the steps below.

The example screenshot below is for FortiClient VPN only v7.4.3, but it will also work for other versions of 7.2.x and 7.4.x of FortiClient. 

1. Download the FortiClient VPN Only .exe file from the Fortinet Support portal.

The naming format of the file that will be downloaded is 'FortiClientVPNSetup_7.x.x.xxxx_x64.exe'. For this example, it will be 'FortiClientVPNSetup_7.4.3.1790_x64.exe'. 

2. Execute the downloaded .exe file, but do not proceed with installation. 

This part will create a temporary .msi file on the path C:\ProgramData\Applications\Cache\<Global Unique ID>\<FortiClient version and build number>\.

3. Copy the .msi file and paste it into a different directory/folder.
