Technical Tip: Extended 'Evaluation' License details of VM Firewalls not reflecting automatically
Description
This article describes why the extended 'evaluation' license information does not automatically reflect on VM firewalls, despite having proper FortiGuard connectivity.
Scope
FortiGate-VM firewalls with 'evaluation license'.
Solution
An evaluation license is a trial license with limited features and capacity. If it is extended, it will not automatically update on the firewall.
-
When a VM 'evaluation' license is extended, it must be re-applied manually, causing the FortiGate to reboot.
- When a VM 'production' license is extended, the information updates automatically, and no customer action is required.
- If the license type changes (e.g., from 'evaluation' to 'production'), the new license must be applied to FortiGate, which will result in a reboot.
