Technical Tip: Checking FortiGate-100F series power supply

| Solution | Some of the FortiGate models come with two power supplies for redundancy. The FortiGate-100F series is one such model; the device has two power supplies that can be connected to different power sources to guarantee that the firewall stays online if it fails.   Solution: Use the command 'diagnose hardware deviceinfo psu' to check if both power supplies are connected.
As shown, only the PSU2 is connected at the moment. When checking the FortiGate rear, this confirms the output above.
Another useful command is 'execute sensor list', which will also show the PSU status, various temperatures, and fan speeds.

Additionally, there is another command, 'execute sensor detail', that provides more information on the PSU including sensor status, alarm status, various temperatures, and fan speeds. In the example output, the alarm status for PSU [1] is 'Yes' as this PSU is not connected.

Note:
FortiGate models, including the 200 series and below, do not have an IPMI Sensor, and therefore, the Sensor Information widget is not available in the web GUI.
Note: When opening a case with Fortinet Support (Welcome to Fortinet Support) to consider the possibility of an RMA: if the FortiGate is configured in Cluster/HA, run the commands below on the FortiGate that is operating normally and include the outputs along with the other evidence. This will ensure that the replacement device is compatible with the functioning FortiGate.
