Technical Tip: Changes in ‘Central Management‘ option

Description

 
This article describes the location of Central Management configuration settings on different FortiOS major versions. This includes legacy FortiOS versions for reference. 
 
Scope
 
FortiGate, FortiManager.
 

Solution


Before v6.0:
To configure the FortiGate from the GUI.

  1. Log in to the FortiGate.
  2. Go to System -> Settings.
  3. Under Central Management, select 'FortiManager.'
  4. Enter the IP/domain name of the FortiManager unit.
  5. Select 'Apply.'

 
From FortiOS v6.0 onwards:


To configure the FortiGate from the GUI.
 

  1. Log in to the FortiGate.
  2. Go to Security Fabric -> Settings.
  3. Enable the Central Management option.
  4. Set Type as 'FortiManager.'
  5. Enter the IP/Domain Name of the FortiManager.
  6. Select 'Apply.'
 
 
From FortiOS v7.4.x and v7.6.x, Central Management can be configured in Security Fabric -> Fabric Connectors -> Central Management.
 

Note :

If central-management is set to FortiGuard:

  • In version 7.2, the status is displayed as 'Enabled' even if the account has not been activated.

  • In version 7.4, the display has been changed to show 'Not Managed' for improved clarity and more intuitive recognition.
