Technical Tip: ARP IP address is not visible in the GUI -> Users & Devices -> Devices Inventory

1. Sometimes it only shows the MAC address without the IP address of a device in the Devices Inventory.

2. But there is an IP address record in the ARP table for that MAC address 70:4c:a5:ea:0f:4a.

   
   diagnose ip arp list | grep 4a
   index=17 ifname=port17 10.1.212.21 70:4c:a5:ea:0f:4a state=00000002 use=178 confirm=321 update=5855151 ref=3

    

3. To make that MAC address have an IP address as seen in the example below: 10.1.212.18 => 70:4c:a5:ea:06:07.
   
   

   

    

4. Set up a local DHCP server on FortiGate to assign an IP address for the device, The Device inventory can extract the IP address from the DHCP lease info.

5. If the issue persists after this, execute the command below after hours:

diagnose user device clear 

diagnose user device list 

6. After that, check the GUI to see whether the IP address can be seen, if not, execute the below command after hours:

diagnose test wad 99 

fnsysctl killall cid
