Description
This article describes how to retrieve the latest console output after an instance transition state (start, stop, reboot, and terminate).

This is useful when the Fortigate-VM experienced an unexpected reboot and you need to get the output of the console to investigate what triggered the reboot.

Solution

1. Open the Amazon EC2 console at https://console.aws.amazon.com/ec2/.

2. In the left navigation pane, choose Instances, and select the instance.

3. Go to Actions > Instance Settings > Get System Log.

This will open another window where it is possible to highlight all the log output and paste it to a notepad.

4. Choose Get Instance Screenshot.

This will open another window with the screenshot of the instance. It's a way to have visibility on the status of the instance when it is not accessible.
