This article explains that the FortiGate 92D can create HA cluster only using wan1 and/or wan2 ports as HA heartbeat interfaces.
On 5.2.4 firmware with FortiGate 92D hardware and internal-switch-mode set to ‘interface’, when using 2 (or more) internal ports as HA heartbeat interfaces, the FortiGate 92D cluster does not come up as expected (see topology design below).
