Technical Tip: FortiExtender-2XXE models new LAN ports IP addressing scheme and the use case
Description
This article describes FortiExtender-2XXE models new LAN ports IP addressing scheme and their use-case.
Solution
1) By default, FortiExtender default IP address is "192.168.1.2" as shown in Page #7 FEX-201E QuickStart Guide:
https://fortinetweb.s3.amazonaws.com/docs.fortinet.com/v2/attachments/9a9d5de5-f4ef-11e9-8977-00505692583a/FortiExtender-201E-211E-202E-212E-QuickStart.pdf
2) On FortiExtender-2XXE models – new IP addressing scheme as shown below:
Port1, Port2 and Port3 part of switch interface configured with IP - 192.168.200.99/24
Port 4 with Interface IP - 192.168.1.2/24

3) By default, FortiExtender runs a DHCP Server on LAN port1, port2, port3 and FortiExtender runs a DHCP Client on port4 .
4) If FortiExtender port4 is connected to FortiGate internal interface. FortiGate runs the DHCP server on FortiGate internal interface, FortiExtender port4 will get a new IP address from FortiGate DHCP Server and FortiExtender can be managed using the new IP address. FortiExtender default MGMTIP: 192.168.1.2 is associated to port4
5) If FortiExtender LAN ports 1,2,3 are connected to FortiGate , then FortiExtender runs DHCP server on its LAN-Switch ports 1,2,3 and FortiGate interface (if in DHCP client mode) connected to FortiExtender LAN-Switch ports 1,2,3 can get IP address from FortiExtender DHCP Server (Default: 192.168.200.99/24)
6) To add/remove ports from LAN-Switch and FortiExtender DHCP Server config.
