Technical Tip: FortiEDR - Duplicate Collectors

Description

This article describes the product design of having 2 collectors with the same hostname.

Scope

FortiEDR 5.x.

Solution

According to the product design:

Upon registration, the Manager is checking the following three parameters:

1) Host name.
2) Volume id/serial number. (Not physical disk drive serial number)
3) Mac address.

If two or more parameters match, the manager will determine it is the same device.

Otherwise, it will register as a new device.
