Technical Tip: Reasons why drag-and-drop folder uploads fail

When using a supported web browser to upload a folder via drag and drop, the upload will fail and this message will appear:

The reason why the upload is failing:

As browser drag-and-drop events do not contain the full path of the folder, the policy engine is unable to carry out content inspection on the path of the folder. Because of this, Fortinet has decided to block all drag-and-drop folder uploads. We are currently investigating a way to obtain full folder paths for drag-and-drop events.

It should be noted that the URL of the upload will still be inspected and any actions dependent on the URL will still be carried out. 

Workaround:

It is recommended to file picker for folder uploads. File picker folder uploads are permitted because the associated browser file access event contains the full path of the folder.
