Description This article describes some simple steps to follow when rebuilding a FortiDDoS configuration from a backup file.
Scope FortiDDoS F Series.
Solution
  1. The hardware must be identical. The new FortiDDoS unit and the FortiDDoS unit from which the backup was taken must be the same model and hardware revision.
  2. During the initial connection to the FortiDDoS, use the console port to assign an appropriate IP address to the device. Default IP address: 192.168.1.99/24 (this IP address is likely not part of the existing network addressing scheme, so the PC connected via the console must be manually assigned an IP address within this range).

Initial username/password:

Username: admin.

Password: leave it blank and press Enter.

After logging in, the system will prompt them to configure a new password.

  1. Upgrade to the same version from which the backup was taken:

  1. Download the image of the version in which the backup was created from the Fortinet Support Portal: Support.
  2. To determine which version was used to take the backup, open the backup file with a text editor (such as Notepad). The first line of the file indicates the version.

Example:

Version FortiDDoS-200F v6.3.3,build0330,220607.

Note: After v6.3.0+ to v7.2.x upgrade is direct (no intermediate version releases required).

  1. Upload the image through the FortiDDoS GUI and perform the upgrade to that version.

  2. Once the device is running the same version in which the backup was taken, the admin can restore the configuration (restore the backup from the GUI).

  1. If help is required with the implementation, consult Fortinet's professional services.
