Description

This article provides a workaround for some cases of failed FortiClient EMS upgrades to v7.2.4, where the ODBC driver is broken, which makes it impossible to connect to the FCM database.

Scope FortiClient EMS v7.2.
Solution

The following error may be encountered when upgrading FortiClient EMS from an older version to v7.2.x:

[07B8:13F4]e000: Unable to connect to the FCM database.
[07B8:13F4]e000: Error 0x81f40001: Bundle condition triggered failure: Unable to connect to the FCM database.
[07B8:13F4]i199: Detect complete, result: 0x0
[07B8:13F4]i500: Shutting down, exit code: 0x1

  1. If FortiClient EMS is running as a virtual machine, take a snapshot of the VM.
  2. Create a full DB backup of the EMS and copy it to a safe place other than the current EMS server under EMS Web UI -> Dashboard -> Status -> Database: Backup (the password is required for restoring this backup).
  3. Go to the Microsoft website, then download and install the ODBC driver 13.1

  1. Try to run the EMS 7.2.4 installer with the same user that has initially installed the EMS server, and additionally make sure to run the installer with administrator privileges.
