Technical Tip: How FortiClient EMS removes license seats when a license expires

When an endpoint or user registers with FortiClient EMS, a license seat is automatically assigned and recorded in the EMS database.

If the license expires, or the contract ends, or the available seat count is reduced, FortiClient EMS uses a Last-In, First-Out (LIFO) approach to remove license seats. This means the most recently registered endpoints or users are the first to lose their license seats.

FortiClient EMS does not automatically reassign freed seats between devices. Once an endpoint loses its seats, it may be disconnected from EMS or lose access to EMS-managed features until the license is renewed or expanded.
