Description
This article explains how to create a FortiClient profile in FortiManager and assign it to a specific device or group of devices.

Solution
1) Creating a device and a device group

Each policy package in the FortiManager has a list of predefined network devices that can be used in  a FortiClient profile. If those groups are too general for use, there is an option to create specific devices and groups.
  • To create a specific device, go to Policy & Objects and select the policy package to be modified. Go to Object> User & Device> Device> Create New> Device, enter the mac address of the device to be created, and other required information.
  • To create a specific device group, go to  Object> User & Device> Create New> Device Group, enter the desired name and select the desired members.
2) Creating a FortiClient profile

A FortiClient profile can be  created on a specific FortiGate in FortiManager, or on a provision template that can then be assigned to multiple FortiGates.

To create the FortiClient profile on a specific FortiGate:
  • Go to Device Manager> Managed FortiGates, click on the desired FortiGate to access its dashboard.
  • From Menu> Customize> Security Profiles, turn on FortiClient Profile.
  • From Menu> Security Profile> FortiClient Profile, click on Create New, to create a new FortiClient profile.
In the new FortiClient Profile page, specify the device group to which the profile should be assigned.

To create a FortiClient profile using the provisioning template:
  • Go to Device Manager> Provisioning template> FortiClient profiles> Create new, to create a profile.
  • In the new FortiClient Profile page, specify the device group to which the profile should be assigned.
  • After the profile is created, select it and click on edit ( assign devices ) to select the devices you want to push the FortiClient profile on.
