Technical Tip: How to download Smart Connect for macOS

A brief introduction of this feature is to provide the ability to set up network settings (such as WiFi configuration) on an endpoint by downloading a script or an executable (depending on the endpoint's OS) from the FortiAuthenticator portal.

MacOS would have an issue when trying to download Smart Connect after the client connects to onboarding WIFI, and it shows 'You Are Not Connected to the internet' in Safari browser, which causes the download to fail.

The reason is that Apple CNA (Captive Network Assistant) restricts all other applications from accessing to network except the Apple CNA prompt, which can access network resources.

Follow the steps below to overcome this issue:

1. Connect to the local onboarding WIFI SSID.
   
   
2. It then redirects to the FortiAuthenticator portal to sign in, log in with the correct credentials.
   
   
3. The FortiAuthenticator guest portal page will display, select the option to download Smart Connect, and it will prompt to open the Safari browser. Select the 'Allow' button, and Safari browser will launch as the background.
   
   
4. Then close Apple CNA prompt and notice Safari browser display 'You Are Not Connected to the internet', Select 'REFRESH' button on browser and the Smart Connect download page will appear, press 'Download' button to download it.
