Technical Tip: How to configure FortiAuthenticator to send password expiry reminder email alerts to the users

Description

This article describes how to configure FortiAuthenticator to send users an email reminder when the password is about to expire.

Scope

FortiAuthenticator.

Solution

Log in to the FortiAuthenticator and configure the SMTP server as described in SMTP servers .
After setting up the SMTP server, configure the password policy as described in Passwords.
Assign the password policy to the user group.
(Note: The password policy can only be applied to local user groups, not remote user groups.)
Go to Authentication -> User Management -> User Groups.
Select Create New.
Enter a name for the user group and set the type to Local.
Add local users to the group.
Select the created password policy and click Save.

To verify if the email has been sent to users, check the logs by navigating to Logging -> Log Access -> Logs.
