Technical Tip: FortiToken Mobile license expired
Description
This article describes an error that occurs when trying to activate the license of FortiTokens with the activation code provided in the EFTMxxxx PDF file. FortiAuthenticator will show the error 'license expired'.
Scope
FortiToken Mobile, FortiAuthenticator, FortiGate.
Solution
The FortiToken Mobile redeeem codes must be used at least one time before the expiration date (on the PDF marked as 'Certificate Valid Until', next to Serial Number). After this activation, the code can be re-used indefinitely, even after the date stamped on 'Valid Until'.
If the tokens are not redeemed (code not used), the FortiAuthenticator will show a 'forticare license expired' error.
FortiGate may return an 'Internal Server Error'.

- If the activation code was not used before the date posted in the file (usually within 365 days), it means that it has expired. The code can no longer be used, the contract is concluded, and the FortiTokens can no longer be used or imported on any unit. There is no action that TAC or Customer Service can perform to regenerate or provide a new code. A new certificate (new FortiTokens) must be purchased.
- If an expired license is deleted, it cannot be recovered, not even with Customer Service assistance.
