Description

This article describes the possible reasons for a FortiAP to show 'N/A' or '0' under the 'channel' column on managed FortiAPs.

Scope

FortiAP.

Solution

FortiAPs might show 'N/A' in the 'channel' column for one of the following reasons:

  • There are no SSIDs configured for this radio.
Solution: Configure at least one SSID on the radio.

  • FortiAP is not properly energized; therefore, the radio is disabled.
Solution: Check the PoE modes on the corresponding datasheet and energize the FortiAP accordingly.

PoE operation can be reviewed on the FortiAP with next command:

cw_diag power

  • FortiAP has not reached its certification; it cannot use a channel in the current RF environment.
Solution: Open a new ticket to the TAC team to further investigate and confirm whether the AP must be certified or not. Include the configuration file from FortiGate and the result of 'fap-tech' from FortiAP's CLI (via SSH or console port).

  • Radio is in monitor mode.
Solution: Configure the radio to work in Access-point mode.

  • Radio is in the 'disable' state.
Solution: Configure the radio to work in Access-point mode.

  • FortiAP is offline on FortiGate.
Solution: Check for possible issues on the CAPWAP tunnel. See this article: Troubleshooting Tip: FortiAP offline: Complete consolidated troubleshooting & checklist.
