Technical Tip: Minimum requirement to bring a FortiAP 221E access point up

This article describes the minimum requirements to bring up a FortiAP-221E access point.

Solution
FortiAccessPoint-221E was introduced in August-14-2017 and it comes up with firmware 5.4.4-build-x.
It requires FortiOS – 5.6.1 and later firmware (FortiGate should be upgraded to 5.6.1 or later firmware) for a FortiAccessPoint-221E to show up in Managed FortiAccessPoint list of FortiGate.
If FortiGate firmware is lower than 5.6.1 and FortiAccessPoint221E is connected to FortiGate, FortiAP gets an IP address and shows up in the DHCP Monitor, but the AP will not be added in the 'Managed FortiAccessPoint' list as it is not a supported AP.
