Description This article describes how to use the boot menu on FortiAP to upgrade or restore firmware.
Scope All FortiAP series except FortiAP-U series.
Solution

In some cases, FortiAP devices may fail to boot due to memory corruption.

Use a serial connection to restore device software (speed 115200).

When FortiAP boot-up starts, this menu should be displayed if a key is pressed:

Boot up, boot device capacity: 64MB.
Press any key to display configuration menu...
..
[G]: Get firmware image from TFTP server.
[F]: Format boot device.
[Q]: Quit menu and continue to boot with default firmware.
[H]: Display this list of options.

Use option F and wait until the memory device is formatted, it should restart again and repeat the above-mentioned process to get the boot menu again.

Now use option G to load a fresh firmware file via TFTP, FortiAP will ask for PC IP and the FortiAP IP which is 192.168.1.2 by default.
