Technical Tip: FortiAP and FortiGate WiFi power configuration discrepancy

Description

This article describes a discrepancy between the WiFi power configuration displayed on the FortiGate web interface and the actual power settings on the FortiAP. The user may observe different power values when comparing the FortiGate profile settings with the FortiAP console settings.

Solution

To resolve the discrepancy, follow these steps:

1. Log in to the FortiGate using the CLI and run the command diagnose wireless-controller wlac -c wtp <WTP_ID> to verify the WiFi power settings.

2. Log in to the FortiAP using the CLI and run the command rcfg to verify the WiFi power settings.

3. Compare the power values displayed on the FortiGate web interface with the actual power settings on the FortiAP console.

4. Take into account that the FortiGate web interface displays the EIRP (Effective Isotropic Radiated Power) value, which includes the antenna gain, while the FortiAP console displays the transmit power (Tx Power) value.

For example, if the FortiAP is set to 20 dBm, the EIRP value displayed on the FortiGate web interface may be different due to the antenna gain. The actual power settings on the FortiAP console can be verified using the command rcfg.
