Technical Tip: SNMP traps not triggered on PSU or power cord disconnection

Sometimes, the SNMP trap (fnTrapPowerSupplyFailure) is not triggered, and the PSU status continues to display as OK even when a power supply unit is down or physically removed for testing.

If the power supply is down for less than 10 minutes, the SNMP trap (fnTrapPowerSupplyFailure) will not be generated.

To verify whether the FortiAnalyzer is generating the SNMP trap (fnTrapPowerSupplyFailure), follow the procedure below:

• Disconnect the power cable or the power supply unit and wait for at least 10 minutes for the SNMP trap (fnTrapPowerSupplyFailure) to be generated.
• Reconnect the power cable or the power supply unit and wait for at least 10 minutes before performing a second test.

If no PSU alarm is generated after following the procedure, please open a support ticket and provide the following information and logs for further investigation:

• FortiAnalyzer configuration backup file.
• In SSH Session 1, run the following commands (ensure that both power supply units are connected and operational).

execute sensor list
execute sensor detail
show system interface
show system route
show system snmp sysinfo
show system snmp user
show system snmp community
execute tac report

• In SSH Session 2, initiate SNMP debugging by executing the following commands.

diagnose debug reset

diagnose debug disable

diagnose debug application snmpd -1
diagnose debug timestamp enable
diagnose debug console enable
diagnose debug enable

• In SSH Session 3, run the following SNMP sniffer command.

diagnose sniffer packet any "host <SNMP-Monitoring-tool-IP> and (port 161 or port 162)" 6 0 l

• Maintain SSH Sessions 2 and 3 active, then disconnect one of the power supply units and wait for a minimum of 10 minutes to allow the SNMP trap to be generated.

• In SSH Session 4, after a wait of at least 10 minutes, gather the output of the following commands:
