Technical Tip: How to swap a Hard Disk on FortiAnalyzer
Description
Scope
FortiAnalyzer.
Solution
How to swap a hard disk on FortiAnalyzer devices that support hardware RAID (hot-swapping):
- Identify the failed hard disk.
- Press the tab on the handle of the failed disk.
- Pull the handle out. The handle will swing away from the unit.
- Pull out the disk from the FortiAnalyzer unit.
- Turn the tray over.
- Remove the screws on the bottom of the tray using the Phillips screwdriver.
- Hold both the tray and the hard disk, and turn the tray over.
- Lift the failed disk from the tray.
- Insert the new hard disk in the tray and replace the screws.
- The FortiAnalyzer unit automatically adds the new disk to the current RAID array.
How to swap a hard disk on FortiAnalyzer units with software RAID (Not hot-swapping):
- Shutdown the FortiAnalyzer.
- Boot the FortiAnalyzer.
- The FortiAnalyzer disk controller scans the available hard disks and updates the RAID array.
Note 1: The detailed procedure to remove the disk could be different for each model.
Note 2: Use this command to check the RAID type and verify whether the model supports hot-swapping: 'diagnose system raid status'.
Note 3: On RAID 50, one drive in each RAID 5 array can fail without the loss of data. Identify and note the status of all drives before swapping disks (for example, failed or unused). If any one disk is already failed/unused in a group, removing another disk in the same RAID group results in exceeding the maximum number of allowed disks to fail in the RAID (one), and results in data loss.
