Troubleshooting Tip: How to prevent repeated Negotiated Speed: 100 alerts for Fast Ethernet devices in FortiAIOps
| Description | This article describes how to handle scenarios with repeated Negotiated Speed: 100 alerts generated by FortiAIOps when a Fast Ethernet (10/100 Mbps) device is connected to a 1 Gbps FortiSwitch port.
When a device that supports only Fast Ethernet is connected to a Gigabit port, the negotiated speed is 100 Mbps. FortiAIOps may interpret this condition as a potential speed mismatch and generate repeated alerts. |
| Scope | FortiOS (all versions) and FortiAIOps (3.2 or higher). |
| Solution | When a Fast Ethernet device is connected to a Gigabit port on a FortiSwitch, FortiAIOps detects that the negotiated speed is lower than the maximum supported port speed. As a result, periodic alerts are generated, indicating a potential connectivity issue.
Starting from FortiAIOps version 3.2, an Advanced Alert Acknowledgement feature is available to suppress false positive alerts.
To create a new Event Acknowledgement, go to AI Insights -> Impacted SLAs -> Switching, select the affected network device from the list, and select Acknowledge.
Configure the acknowledgement settings as follows.
Note: To suppress the same alert across all devices, select 'ALL' for FortiGate, FortiSwitch, and the Port. This configuration is not recommended, as it may suppress valid alerts for actual speed negotiation issues on Gigabit-capable devices. All created acknowledgements can be found under AI Insights -> Event Acknowledgement.
