Unable to PXE boot Fortigate 100F

Hello, i was wondering if anyone could help me out with a PXE issue i am having. We get the device to get an IP address from DHCP then is says "Downloading NBP file" and does nothing. Just sits there and doesnt even error out.

I have already set the next-server and filename in the dhcp server.

set next-server 10.200.87.25
set filename "\SMSImages\GSB0023B\winpe.GSB00052.GSB0023B.wim"

Thanks in advanced.

Hi,

guessing this is some device, laptop or some smaller device, then try to do a packet capture on FortiGate. If the device is downloading, there should be a bunch of packets going forth and back.

diag sniffer packet any 'port 69' 4 0 a

will give you the packet headers and sizes (=length) as well as which interface a packet enters and exits.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,

Markus

Please ensure Fortigate is configured correctly for PXE Boot: https://community.fortinet.com/t5/FortiGate/Technical-Tip-Configuring-FortiGate-for-PXE-Client-booti...

DHCP Options: https://community.fortinet.com/t5/FortiGate/Technical-Tip-Configure-DHCP-option-60-66-and-67-FortiGa...

For packet captures, you can perform a verbose 6 capture in Fortigate and then convert it into a wireshark readable file: https://community.fortinet.com/t5/FortiGate/Troubleshooting-Tip-Using-the-FortiOS-built-in-packet-sn...

# diag sniffer packet any 'port 69' 6 0 l

-> Reproduce the issue

ctrl+c to stop the sniffer packet

Thanks for the replies on this issue. I have tried what Markus_M and jiahoong112 has suggested but am still not able to get past this point. I did however get on a call with Fortinet support last week and they have told me that the problem isnt with the 80F device that we are using and that it is passing the traffic correctly. I will investigate further to find the cause of the issue.

Thanks All

VinceNat

Hi,

Did you find a solution ?

I have the same issue and i don't find

Thanks !

VinceNat

I found a solution with the cell Cyber.

In a fortigate the Cyber added a rules (i don't know which one)

After that, no more problem.

Try to open all the rules et close one by one.

Markus_M

what DID the packet capture say? Are the packets forwarded or not?

If not, need to investigate why not (policy missing etc)

If yes, need to investigate where the packets are leaving and if the recipient is receiving them.

Best regards,

Markus
